Paralympic Athlete
Joe Russel
In
Atlanta, Joe hosted the cable television show "You Can Do It If I
Can," Produced by Joyce Ray-Loper
for three years. He also starred in the Docu-Drama,
"The Joe Russel Story". A fictionalized production based on a true
story simulates wherein one man’s life as a paraplegic is explored, showing
his courage, ambition, and a special love for life itself. This popular
production is featured in many Video
Resource Centers, including Hospitals, and Libraries for disability
awareness.
Joe because of his muscular body (see photos above left) was notice by Playgirl
Magazine and made an offer to pose nude. However, because of the ethics code of
being a
Paralympic
Athlete, had to decline the offer.

A
native of High Point, N.C., Joseph Warren Russel moved to Atlanta in 1991 to pursue his
education at Georgia State University (GSU)
in Urban Government Administration.
He also served as an athlete ambassador consultant for GSU.
In 1998, Joe worked for Handi-Capable
In The Media, Inc.
and Home Depot through the Olympic Job
Opportunity Program. He is
currently employed by the Centers for Disease Control
as a Public Health Advisor
in Atlanta, Georgia. Injured in a
car accident at the age of 19, Joe is a T- 4 Paraplegic Incomplete. He walks with
braces and crutches and uses a wheelchair. Joe, who is single and lives in
Atlanta, contends that his motivation stems from an undying faith in God and the
4 D’s: DETERMINATION, DISCIPLINE, DEDICATION
AND DESIRE.
Joe just had his
dream house custom built.
